There are few hard-and-fast rules about background checks.
The decision to conduct certain checks is often a decision your organisation can make depending on the risks that apply to your organisation, activities or services. For example, if you have not completed certain checks your organisation may be liable for damage caused by a worker.
The exception to this rule is the Working With Children Check which is mandatory for all workers who will have contact with children.
You may also be required to conduct certain checks through sector-specific regulations.
